Bringing the night sky to life…

My name is Derek Vasselin and I’m the Astrophotographer behind Chronicles of the Cosmos.

What you see on this website is the end result of a passion in astronomy and physics that started over 20 years ago.

In fact, I still remember the day I got my first telescope. Going to a telescope shop at the age of 12, with my father, to buy a 130mm Newtonian Reflector. A telescope I still have to this day…

And I still remember the early days of trying to figure out astrophotography. Mounting an old-school digital camera to the eyepiece of my telescope and capturing my first-ever images (albeit not having a clue what I was doing).

You can see some of those photos below. By some miracle, I still have them along with the dates they were captured!

Today, I'm fortunate to be working with upgraded equipment. This, along with refined processing skills, has allowed my astrophotography to reach the next level.

This has enabled me to capture objects that are thousands (if not millions) of lightyears away and bring them to life on the screen you’re looking at!
